Start with your concern

Periodontal care in Costa Rica.
Support your smile.

Bleeding, swollen gums, recession, or changing tooth stability deserve an assessment. Gum disease can affect the tissues and bone that support teeth.

A periodontal examination helps determine the condition and appropriate care. Treatment and long-term maintenance work together; appearance alone cannot establish gum health.

Assess the foundation

Gum measurements, clinical findings, and imaging help clarify the condition of the supporting tissues.

Treat the condition

Care may begin with non-surgical treatment; further procedures depend on your response and needs.

Maintain progress

Home care and professional maintenance remain part of the plan after active treatment.

Three parts of a healthy foundation.

123
1 Gum tissue
Surrounds the tooth at the gumline. Its condition is part of your periodontal assessment.
2 Tooth root
Extends below the gumline and is held within the surrounding supporting tissues.
3 Supporting bone
Forms the foundation around the roots. Gum disease can affect this support.

Periodontal treatment costs in Costa Rica

Request a written, itemized estimate based on the records available for review. The final plan is confirmed after an in-person examination and any additional imaging. If new findings change the recommendation, review the reason, alternatives, and revised costs with the clinic before approving treatment. Your estimate should distinguish treatment, included ground transportation, and any separately priced services.

Can I communicate with the team in English?

Yes. Dr. Adriana Mena and Dr. Alonso Casafont both speak fluent English, so you can discuss your goals, treatment options, and questions directly with them. Before travel, confirm your clinical contact for follow-up and request written instructions in English.

How can I review the clinicians and clinic standards?

Explore the clinical team’s specialties and qualifications on our Meet the Docs section. Confirm who will perform each part of your care. Ask the treating clinic about instrument sterilization and monitoring, infection-control practices, and the equipment and materials proposed for your case.

What should I plan for during recovery?

Ask your clinician for guidance on comfort management, eating, activity, time away from work, and when you can travel. Recovery varies with the procedure and your health. Plan the pace of your stay around those instructions; discuss any sedation needs and whether someone should accompany you before booking.

What happens if I need help after returning home?

Before traveling, confirm the clinic’s follow-up contact, how remote concerns are reviewed, and when an in-person assessment or return visit may be needed. Request written aftercare and copies of your treatment records for your dentist at home. Ask for any guarantee terms and responsibility for additional care or travel costs in writing; seek local care promptly for urgent concerns.

How many visits will I need, and how long should I stay?

Periodontal care may include an initial assessment, treatment, reassessment, and ongoing maintenance. Your clinic confirms the number of visits, length of each stay, and any follow-up before you finalize travel. Allow room for the recommended recovery and review appointments.

Does bleeding mean I have gum disease?

Bleeding is a reason to seek an assessment, but it does not establish the diagnosis on its own. Your clinician examines the gums and supporting tissues.

Will I need surgery?

Not every patient needs surgery. Non-surgical treatment may be appropriate, with further care based on the findings and response.

Is treatment finished after the first visit?

Periodontal care often involves reassessment and ongoing maintenance. Your clinician sets the schedule for your condition.

Who handles treatment and payment?

Your dental treatment is provided by the clinic. Payment is due directly to the clinic when you arrive for your appointment, before treatment begins. If your plan requires multiple visits, you pay for the treatment scheduled for each visit when you arrive for that visit.

What transportation is included, and can you help plan my stay?

Your treatment price includes ground transportation for airport pickup, travel from your accommodations to dental appointments and back, and your return to the airport for departure. Flights and accommodations are booked separately.

Divergent Escapes can bring your travel plans together through an optional package, with pricing confirmed before booking. Prefer to arrange your own stay? We can recommend properties where we have established relationships.
