Preparation with a purpose

Bone grafting & oral surgery in Costa Rica.
Plan your next step.

Tooth loss, infection, or injury can change the bone around a treatment site. Grafting may help restore the support needed for a future implant or restoration.

Not every dental implant case needs a graft. Your examination and imaging establish whether preparation belongs in your plan.

Preserve the foundation

After an extraction, ridge preservation may help maintain bone contour for future treatment.

Build needed support

A graft may add bone volume at a planned implant site. In the upper back jaw, a sinus-related procedure may be considered.

Prepare the treatment area

Oral surgery may include removing a tooth that cannot be restored or addressing another site-specific need.

Bone grafting and oral surgery costs in Costa Rica

Request a written, itemized estimate based on the records available for review. The final plan is confirmed after an in-person examination and any additional imaging. If new findings change the recommendation, review the reason, alternatives, and revised costs with the clinic before approving treatment. Your estimate should distinguish treatment, included ground transportation, and any separately priced services.

Can I communicate with the team in English?

Yes. Dr. Adriana Mena and Dr. Alonso Casafont both speak fluent English, so you can discuss your goals, treatment options, and questions directly with them. Before travel, confirm your clinical contact for follow-up and request written instructions in English.

How can I review the clinicians and clinic standards?

Explore the clinical team’s specialties and qualifications on our Meet the Docs section. Confirm who will perform each part of your care. Ask the treating clinic about instrument sterilization and monitoring, infection-control practices, and the equipment and materials proposed for your case.

What should I plan for during recovery?

Ask your clinician for guidance on comfort management, eating, activity, time away from work, and when you can travel. Recovery varies with the procedure and your health. Plan the pace of your stay around those instructions; discuss any sedation needs and whether someone should accompany you before booking.

What happens if I need help after returning home?

Before traveling, confirm the clinic’s follow-up contact, how remote concerns are reviewed, and when an in-person assessment or return visit may be needed. Request written aftercare and copies of your treatment records for your dentist at home. Ask for any guarantee terms and responsibility for additional care or travel costs in writing; seek local care promptly for urgent concerns.

How many visits will I need, and how long should I stay?

Surgery and bone grafting can require recovery checks and a later stage of treatment after healing. Your clinic confirms the number of visits, length of each stay, and any follow-up before you finalize travel. Allow room for the recommended recovery and review appointments.

What material is used for a bone graft?

Options may include your own bone, donor material, or synthetic substitutes. Your clinician explains the proposed material and alternatives.

Why might a membrane be used?

A membrane may protect the graft and guide healing. Some dissolve; others require removal. Ask how this affects your follow-up plan.

What should I ask about recovery?

Ask about comfort, eating, activity, follow-up appointments, travel timing, and who to contact with concerns. Your clinic provides instructions specific to the procedure.

Who handles treatment and payment?

Your dental treatment is provided by the clinic. Payment is due directly to the clinic when you arrive for your appointment, before treatment begins. If your plan requires multiple visits, you pay for the treatment scheduled for each visit when you arrive for that visit.

What transportation is included, and can you help plan my stay?

Your treatment price includes ground transportation for airport pickup, travel from your accommodations to dental appointments and back, and your return to the airport for departure. Flights and accommodations are booked separately.

Divergent Escapes can bring your travel plans together through an optional package, with pricing confirmed before booking. Prefer to arrange your own stay? We can recommend properties where we have established relationships.
