Keep your own pace.
Choose the experience that excites you, then match its real demands to your group. You can mix active mornings with relaxed afternoons.

Canopy & Ziplines
Choose a guided canopy course around your comfort with heights, harness fit, and the way the course works.

Whitewater Rafting
Make a suitable river section the highlight of your trip, with a day outing or lodge journey matched to your group.

Canyoning & Rappelling
Experience a guided waterfall descent, with the approach, wet ground, and effort considered alongside the rappel.

Kayaking & Coastal Paddles
Explore at paddle speed on a route chosen around distance, wind exposure, and your comfort on the water.

Forest Trails & Hanging Bridges
Take a guided forest walk with time to stop and notice, choosing a bridge route only when it suits you.

Surf Lessons & Coastal Days
Build a coastal day around instruction matched to your ability, beach conditions, and the rest of your group.
Big memories. A sensible pace.
Explore three sample trip plans
Build your trip around one or two experiences you really want, then give yourself time to enjoy them. These sample routes balance active mornings with comfortable recovery.
Arenal, at your pace
Stay near La Fortuna and choose two main outings.
A good fit for: Travelers wanting variety without repeated hotel moves.
See how the days could flow
Pair a canopy or bridge experience with a waterfall descent on a different day. Keep a thermal afternoon and a flexible weather window.
Arenal to Manuel Antonio
Three inland nights followed by four on the Central Pacific.
A good fit for: Couples or families mixing adventure with beach time.
See how the days could flow
Choose one height-based experience inland, then a guided coastal paddle or surf lesson suited to your group. Leave a free day between harder outings.
Pacuare journey, then the coast
Reserve a guided river itinerary, with the remaining nights at one coastal base.
A good fit for: Active travelers who want the river to be the trip’s main story.
See how the days could flow
River class, lodge access, luggage handling, and physical requirements determine the river leg. Avoid placing a flight immediately after it.
Choose the route’s actual demands
Ask for walking, steps, water exposure, braking method, and harness fit. The activity name alone does not show how demanding it will be.
Plan for mixed comfort levels
One traveler can choose a guided walk while another chooses a canopy course, then meet for lunch. Confirm companion access before promising it.
Keep the next morning comfortable
Leave recovery time after rafting or canyoning. Protect a flexible day for weather changes instead of filling every available slot.
Sample trip ideas, not fixed packages. Nights describe time at your chosen bases; travel days may need extra accommodation. Your personal proposal confirms availability, transport, booked experiences, inclusions, and terms.

Plan your days.
| Experience | Main demands | Gentler approach to discuss | Before reserving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canopy / zipline | Height, harness fit, and following instructions. | A suitable course with optional elements you can skip. | Braking system, harness limits, and walks between platforms. |
| Rafting | Moving water and active participation. | A river section matched to your experience and group. | Rapid class, swimming criteria, river conditions, and full day length. |
| Canyoning | Wet ground, height, and physical effort. | A waterfall visit instead of a technical descent. | Approach, steps, climbing, equipment fit, and eligibility. |
| Kayaking | Paddling effort, balance, and water exposure. | A suitable protected-water route. | Wind exposure, launch access, duration, and supervision. |
| Trails / bridges | Walking, uneven ground, and possible bridge exposure. | A shorter route with planned rest stops. | Distance, gradients, steps, and actual accessibility. |
| Surfing | Swimming and repeated effort in moving water. | Supported instruction in conditions chosen by the instructor. | Swimming ability, lesson ratio, board choice, and beach section. |
This is a comparison of typical demands, not a clearance to participate. The selected operator confirms eligibility, equipment fit, and conditions.
More planning guidance
Pick the day you will talk about.
Choose your must-do experience first, then plan a sensible base around it. Add one or two complementary outings instead of crossing the country for every activity on the list.
Make room beyond the activity.
Our starting suggestion is 3–4 nights at one activity base, or 7–10 nights for an inland-and-coast trip. Reserve longer journeys for remote river lodges or additional regions. These are suggestions, not fixed packages.
Water and weather shape the day.
Rainfall can change river levels, crossings, and trail conditions. Dry-season travel does not guarantee every river section will run; green season does not mean every trip is canceled. We confirm the selected activity for your dates.
Different comfort levels can fit.
Tell us who wants a bigger challenge and who prefers a gentler outing. Separate activities can work from the same base, with time together afterward. Companion access or spectator seats must be confirmed.
Arrive prepared.
Enjoy the moment.
Confidence beats bravado.
Tell us what you have actually done, how long you comfortably walk, and how you feel about heights and moving water. Mention swimming ability and any activity you would prefer to skip.
Grip matters when it gets wet.
Ask for the selected activity’s footwear requirements. Secure shoes that can get wet suit many river outings; trail shoes suit walks. Avoid loose flip-flops for technical activities, and pack dry shoes for the return.
Finish comfortably.
Bring quick-drying clothing, a towel, dry layers, sun protection, and a reusable water bottle. Use a small waterproof bag where allowed. For harness activities, ask about clothing length and securing long hair.
One tour’s rules are not another’s.
Provide ages and requested size details before paying. Confirm height, weight, harness, swimming, and health criteria for the actual operator. Share relevant restrictions privately so we can find an appropriate alternative.
Let the activity have your attention.
Leave loose jewelry and valuables behind. Ask how glasses and cameras must be secured, and whether the guide offers photographs. Do not assume a phone or handheld camera is permitted on a zipline or rappel.
Enjoy the next day, too.
Avoid stacking your two hardest outings back to back. Confirm the return time before booking dinner or another tour, and leave a flexible slot in case weather changes an activity.
A little clarity.
A better escape.
Do we need previous experience?
Some experiences accept beginners, but beginner-friendly does not mean suitable for everyone. Your swimming ability, mobility, comfort with heights, and the selected route all matter. We confirm the operator’s requirements before booking.
Is there one minimum age or maximum weight?
No universal limit applies to all six activities. Rules depend on the operator, equipment, route, and conditions. Send the requested details before paying so we can confirm eligibility for each person.
Can we choose a gentler adventure?
Yes. A shorter guided walk or suitable protected-water outing may fit better than canyoning or whitewater. We check the actual route and demands rather than relying on labels such as easy or family-friendly.
What if I have a health condition, injury, or am pregnant?
Tell us about any restrictions that affect activity choice and ask your clinician about suitability when needed. Operators may exclude certain conditions or require clearance. We cannot provide medical clearance, and will help explore alternatives.
What happens if river levels or weather are unsuitable?
The operator can change the route, postpone, or cancel based on conditions. An alternative or refund follows the specific booking terms; neither is automatic. We explain those terms in your proposal.
Are equipment, guides, and transfers included?
Your proposal lists the required equipment, guiding, transfers, and any meals or admission included in each selected activity. Photographs, upgrades, private departures, and optional activities are included only when specified.
Does travel insurance cover adventure activities?
Coverage varies. Ask your insurer to confirm the named activities and any exclusions or limits for your planned trip. Do not assume a general travel policy or an operator’s waiver provides personal accident or evacuation cover.
Can adventure fit a luxury vacation?
Yes. Choose a comfortable base, a few well-matched outings, and time for a pool, spa, or beach. These experiences are planned within your wider itinerary, with the hotels and transport chosen to support the pace you want.
Can we book private guiding?
Ask us to compare private and shared arrangements for your chosen activity. A private guide may allow a more personal pace, but does not change equipment restrictions or access rules. Some fixed courses or departures still operate with other guests.
How much of the day does an activity take?
Compare hotel pickup to hotel return, not just time on the raft, line, or trail. Transport, briefings, equipment fitting, meals, and changing can add substantially to the day. We request that full schedule before combining outings.
Can we choose a half-day experience?
Often a shorter outing is worth exploring, particularly when you want a relaxed afternoon. Tell us your preferred return time so we can check the specific route and departure. A short advertised duration does not always include the transfer.
Are there other adventure options beyond these six?
Tell us if horseback riding, cycling, or another activity is your priority. These six are starting points, not a complete activity inventory. We check the route, participation requirements, availability, and how an additional experience fits your wider itinerary.
The story you’ll tell.
The pace you’ll enjoy.
Tell us which adventure has your attention. We’ll build the stay and itinerary around the experience you want.
