Your kind of quiet.
Choose the atmosphere you want: resort ease, walkable dining, coastal nature, or a quieter rhythm. These nine starting points help narrow the coast.

Flamingo & Conchal
Build a leisurely escape around pale beaches and a comfortable coastal base. Flamingo adds marina access; nearby Conchal offers a distinctive shell-covered shoreline.

Papagayo & Coco
Choose among resort settings and established coastal towns in the Gulf of Papagayo area. Your best base depends on whether you prefer a self-contained stay or easy access to local dining.

Tamarindo & Langosta
Enjoy a coast with more movement: surf lessons, restaurants, and evenings out. Stay near town for convenience or discuss a quieter setting toward Langosta.

Manuel Antonio
Let a guided forest morning and an ocean afternoon share the same stay. Choose your accommodation for its actual beach access as well as the view.

Uvita & the Costa Ballena
A greener, more spread-out coast for travelers happy to trade a walkable resort strip for broad views and a slower rhythm. Plan transportation around the stay you choose.

Puerto Viejo & Punta Uva
Explore a Caribbean stay shaped by forest-backed beaches, local food, and small coastal communities. Your hotel’s location determines which beaches and restaurants are easy to reach.

Jacó Beach
Choose Jacó for a beach stay with restaurants, surf lessons, and town life close at hand. Your exact hotel location matters when balancing convenient evenings out with a quieter place to sleep.

Los Sueños & Herradura
Make Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort your starting point for a comfortable Herradura stay, with a beachfront setting, golf, spa, and dining options. Nearby marina departures can add time on the water to your itinerary.

Nosara & Santa Teresa
Consider either of these distinct coastal bases for surf-focused days, yoga, and a smaller-property atmosphere. Choose one for a settled stay; Nosara and Santa Teresa are not interchangeable hotel neighborhoods.
Your coast. Your kind of escape.
Explore three sample trip plans
A great beach trip starts with the atmosphere you want: resort ease, nature beside the ocean, or a slower coastal rhythm. Use these sample stays to narrow the choice.
Guanacaste, without the rush
Choose one base around Papagayo, Flamingo, or Conchal.
A good fit for: Couples seeking comfortable facilities and a straightforward coastal stay.
See how the days could flow
Keep two full days open for the beach and pool, add one coastal outing, and plan dinners around your actual hotel location.
Manuel Antonio to Herradura
Four nights near Manuel Antonio, then three in Herradura or Los Sueños.
A good fit for: Travelers who want wildlife, coastal scenery, and marina experiences.
See how the days could flow
Plan a park morning, a free beach day, and an optional marina-based sail or fishing charter. Arrange each outing separately in your proposal.
Puerto Viejo & Punta Uva
Settle into one carefully chosen southern Caribbean base.
A good fit for: Travelers drawn to Caribbean culture and a less scheduled week.
See how the days could flow
Mix relaxed beach time, local dining, and a suitable guided nature outing. Preserve daylight for the longer arrival and departure journeys.
Beachfront has several meanings
Compare direct sand access with a view, shuttle, or walk down steps. Ask for the exact path from your booked room to the beach.
Choose your evening atmosphere
Walkable dining and nightlife favor a town base; quiet evenings may favor a property farther out with planned transport.
Plan swimming day by day
A sheltered-looking bay can still have currents. Follow local warnings and use a pool when sea conditions are unsuitable.
Sample trip ideas, not fixed packages. Nights describe time at your chosen bases; travel days may need extra accommodation. Your personal proposal confirms availability, transport, booked experiences, inclusions, and terms.

| Coastal choice | The atmosphere | Good trip pairing | The detail that matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flamingo / Conchal | Beach-focused comfort and marina possibilities. | A Guanacaste coastal stay | Distinguish a beachfront room from a shuttle or walk to the sand. |
| Papagayo / Coco | Resort-oriented bays or a coastal town base. | Resort time with one selected marine outing | Choose the specific bay and property before judging transfer time. |
| Tamarindo / Langosta | Dining, surf culture, and varied accommodation. | Lessons with time for restaurants and downtime | Compare town convenience with quiet room location. |
| Manuel Antonio | Coastal rainforest and scenic beaches. | A guided park morning with free coastal days | Hills, stairs, park entry, and the actual beach access route. |
| Uvita / Costa Ballena | Green coastal scenery and more dispersed stays. | A quieter base and a separately booked nature outing | How you reach meals and excursions from the property. |
| Puerto Viejo / Punta Uva | Caribbean food, beaches, and atmosphere. | One settled Caribbean base | Protect time for arrival and departure; choose the exact neighborhood. |
| Jacó Beach | A lively town, dining, and surf lessons. | A Central Pacific stay with varied activities | Hotel noise, location, and conditions at the selected beach section. |
| Los Sueños / Herradura | Resort facilities and marina experiences. | Fishing, sailing, or golf with downtime | Identify the room or rental and its specific amenity access. |
| Nosara / Santa Teresa | Surfing, yoga, and a longer coastal rhythm. | Repeated sessions from one base | Choose one town and compare the property-to-activity journey. |

More planning guidance
One country. Different weather.
The North Pacific is typically drier December–April. Pacific green-season trips need flexibility, especially later in the season. The Caribbean follows a different pattern, with September–October often worth considering; rain is possible year-round.
Make the stay feel like a stay.
As our starting suggestion, allow 3–4 coastal nights after inland touring, or 5–7 nights when the beach is the main purpose. These are planning ranges, not packages; flight times and excursions can change them.
Save your time for the coast.
Compare Liberia for a Guanacaste-focused trip and San José for many Central Pacific, South Pacific, or Caribbean routes. We confirm the actual hotel transfer before you commit to flights.
The details define the escape.
Tell us about quiet evenings, restaurants within walking distance, adults-only preferences, family facilities, air-conditioning, and accessibility. Compare those essentials alongside the room category and view.
Arrive prepared.
Enjoy the moment.
Ocean view is not beachfront.
Ask for the route from your room to the sand: steps, steep roads, shuttle hours, or a transfer can change your day. Tell us if you want to walk out to the beach without planning transportation.
Choose the conditions, too.
Ask a lifeguard or qualified local guide about currents and designated swimming areas. Follow flags and closures; do not swim alone. A sheltered-looking bay or calm photograph does not establish safe conditions.
Keep your beach bag simple.
Bring swimwear, a sun shirt, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a dry bag. Add secure footwear for access paths. Confirm towels, shade, and chairs rather than assuming the hotel supplies them at every beach.
Give the shoreline room to change.
Ask about tidal access for sandbars, coves, and coastal walks. At Marino Ballena, follow park advice for the whale-tail outing. Leave time to return before access changes.
One outing can be enough.
Keep a genuinely open day between bigger excursions. A beach stay loses its purpose when every morning begins with a transfer. Tell us whether your priority is a pool, the sand, dining, or time on the water.
Make relaxing easier.
Use the hotel safe for items you do not need. Do not leave bags unattended on the beach or luggage visible in a parked vehicle. Agree on a belongings plan before everyone goes into the water.
A little clarity.
A better escape.
Which beach is best for swimming?
There is no beach that is always safe to swim. Swell, tides, currents, and weather change conditions. We help you choose a stay that suits your priorities, but you should obtain local advice each day and obey signs, flags, and closures. Many beaches have no lifeguards.
Can we combine the Pacific and Caribbean?
Yes, when the trip has enough time. They are not neighboring day-trip destinations. For a short vacation, choosing one coast usually gives you more time to enjoy it; a longer itinerary can make room for both.
Are all beaches open without a ticket?
No. Beaches within protected areas may require paid admission and follow park hours and restrictions. Manuel Antonio’s park beaches differ from public beaches outside the park. We identify the access arrangement for your chosen outing.
What should we know about Manuel Antonio?
The park’s regular weekly closure is Tuesday. Entry availability, permitted items, and visitor rules should be confirmed for your date. Book the correct admission in advance and do not assume food or single-use containers can be brought inside.
Will we see whales from Uvita?
Whale encounters are seasonal and never guaranteed. If a boat outing matters to you, tell us before choosing dates. We confirm the available trip, expected conditions, and inclusions; a beach stay alone does not include whale watching.
Can we add surfing, snorkeling, sailing, or diving?
We can explore suitable additions to your itinerary. Conditions, experience requirements, and availability vary by area. A beach package does not automatically include equipment, lessons, boat seats, or marine outings.
Are these the only coastal places you can arrange?
These nine features are starting points, not a complete coast inventory. Tell us if you prefer another beach or a particular hotel, and we will check how it fits your dates, stay preferences, and route.
Does a Los Sueños stay include a private beach or beach club?
We describe the Marriott as a beachfront resort on Herradura Bay, not as a private shoreline. Hotel amenities and the separate private beach club have different access arrangements. Your proposal confirms the room, meals, facilities, and any guest passes included; do not assume a hotel or rental reservation includes every Los Sueños amenity. If you prefer a condo or villa, ask us to check the specific property and availability before planning around it.
What happens if the weather changes?
Rain alone does not necessarily cancel a stay or outing. Boat and water activities depend on operating conditions; the provider makes the final decision. Your proposal explains the applicable changes, cancellation terms, and any alternatives.
Which areas suit walkable dining versus resort time?
Jacó and Tamarindo are starting points for a town-based stay with dining choices nearby. Papagayo, Flamingo, Conchal, and Los Sueños offer different resort-oriented possibilities. Walkability depends on the exact property; request the actual route rather than relying on the town name.
Do we need a car for a beach stay?
It depends on the property and your plans. A stay with arranged transfers and a few reserved outings may work well without driving. A secluded accommodation can require transport for every meal or outing. We compare that practical cost and convenience before choosing the stay.
What should we reserve before arrival?
Secure your chosen room category, airport transfers, and any must-do boat outing, park visit, or celebration dinner. Leave ordinary beach days flexible. Your confirmation should identify which reservations are paid, which are requests, and their cancellation terms.
Your time away.
Make it feel like yours.
Tell us how you want your days to feel. We’ll match the coast, stay, and details to that picture.
